Autism Awareness Month Events

Family Soup Presents:

April 15 – Young Adult Transition, 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Yuba City Council Chambers, 1201 Civic Center Blvd., Yuba City

Four experts will discuss options and opportunities for young adults with developmental disabilities as they transition out of public school and into the “real world”. Specific topics include opportunities and services for students with mild disabilities at Yuba College, the challenges and successes of being a student with Asperger’s at UC Davis and how to prepare for the college experience, microenterprise opportunities for people with disabilities, and alternative housing models that would be possible in our community. Spanish translation is available.

April 22 – Coaching You to Be a Loving Mate and Powerful Parent, 6:00pm – 8:00pm, Fremont Hospital Conference Room, 989 Plumas Street, Yuba City

Michele Finstad, married parent of an adult child with special needs and retired Certified Life Coach, will present a powerful, positive, and interactive program designed to empower parents of children with special needs to strengthen their relationships with family and improve their ability to advocate for their children. April 24 – 4th Annual Autism Awareness Fair, 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, Butte Vista Elementary School Multi-Purpose Room, 2195 Blevin Road, Yuba City

Over 30 local agencies that provide services will be available to speak about a variety of topics.  Please plan to attend if you or someone you know could benefit from information and support on autism spectrum disorders, other developmental disabilities, respite care, occupational therapy, behavior support, education services, recreation, transition services, research studies, “Safe Return” programs, job coaching and MANY others! There will be children’s activities, demonstrations, and numerous resources. Take advantage of this great opportunity to meet all these agencies in ONE location. Spanish translation is available.

April 29 – Behavioral Approaches & Support for Young Children, 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Yuba City Council Chambers, 1201 Civic Center Blvd., Yuba City

Three experts will discuss behavioral approaches and support for young children with autism spectrum disorders. Specific topics include what is expected at school, what can happen at home to prepare children for school, home behavior programs, strategies parents can use to manage behavior, and the benefits and challenges of home behavior programs from a parent perspective.
